Even when a solution brought by private companies might seem like a source of hope for the neighborhoods destroyed by the Beirut Port explosion, it only proposes a replica of the reconstruction catastrophe created by Solidere in the past. This text discusses a project proposed by a number of European corporations, to rebuild the Port area. This project, or what will be proposed through similar projects, has significant impacts on the affected neighborhoods and the city as a whole. If we do not ask the appropriate questions, and address the priorities of the displaced and affected population first, the consequences of these projects will only be greater destruction of the affected areas, and a greater disregard for people’s rights.
