The development and organization of the Lebanese coast has often been associated with the construction and real estate industry. In the northern part of El Meten district, projects such as LINORD and Waterfront City in Dbayeh have resulted in the confiscation of public property to benefit influential individuals and politicians, in one of the largest corruption scandals along the Lebanese coast. This discussion focuses on how these policies and projects – often justified as beautification projects aimed at improving the lives of El Meten’s citizens – have led to the marginalization of regional economies and resulted in profits for a limited group of investors with close connections to the authorities.
