A Ministry of Development, Planning and Housing: What We Need at This Stage

Today, a debate is growing on the importance of establishing a Ministry of Planning, within the intended new approach to the Government. But this vision of the State is not new, as a number of governments, during the modern history of Lebanon, have effectively formed a Ministry of Planning, under several names, all of which aim to focus on Lebanon’s development policy, planning, housing, agriculture and other sectors.

In this context, this article provides an overview of the Ministry’s history, stressing the importance of establishing such a ministry, to produce a comprehensive vision of the political economic plan for the State and regions. What we miss today is a public institution that sets this vision and leads a national debate around it, especially at the level of land regulation.
